The city was destroyed by the zerg during their invasion of the planet in the Great War. The city was left in ruins, infested by feral zerg. Six years later, as the Golden Armada launched an invasion to reclaim the protoss homeworld, Kherrisan once again became a battlefield as Daelaam forces were deployed outside and within the city, clearing out the zerg and reactivating the city's warp conduits. Despite the zerg (and later, hybrid) resistance, the protoss were successful. With the warp conduits reactivated, they now had unfettered access to the planet's surface.
