Roy Copenhaver was the treasurer of Grantville's Pentecostal Church. When Dieter Fischer was able to raise a substantial number of donations through his radio show, Copenhaver decided to recruit Maria Kurgerfrom the Kurger Emporium in order to help value the different types of currency that were being donated.
