"Queen of the May" or "May Queen" was a title conferred upon some young human women in at least 17th century Britain. These women were at the centre of springtime celebrations involving maypoles. Will Chandler, a native of the 17th century, seemed to be of the opinion that May Queens were universally burned to death during the ceremonies. In real life, it's unclear that May Queens were actually sacrificed during springtime celebrations.
