The Grand Protector was the leader of Rodia and the Rodian race. All Rodians were intended to be obedient and subservient to the Grand Protector. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the title of Grand Protector was held by a member of the Chattza clan. The Grand Protector and his clan had little presence in Betu, a continent on Rodia.
