Born into a minor noble family on Blackjack, Dakkar Raleigh was enrolled into the Blackjack school of combat with the expectation of entering military service. However, the Steel Viper conquest of the planet in 3052 put paid to that plan; Dakkar, rather then fighting in the defence of his homeworld chose to abandon his comrades and flee off-world, disguised as a civilian.
