This bust of the Roman god Janus was used by Ethan Rayne to enchant the costumes of his shop of disguises in the evening of Halloween. The spell changed anyone wearing one of the costumes into the very personality and attributes represented by the costumes. So, Buffy Summers became a shy young woman and an innocent of the 18th century, Xander Harris a soldier, Willow Rosenberg a ghost, and so on. Rupert Giles discovered that his former friend was behind the plot. Ethan explained that it was necessary to break Janus's head to break the spell, which Giles did just in time to prevent Spike from killing Buffy.
