Both Rakkin's mother and father worked in the Calantaa arena. He grew up also working there, polishing and repairing equipment. At the age of 17 he finally entered the arena as a gladiator. Armed with only a rapier and a shield, he defeated a dwarven wrestler named Karnos Coalminer.
