A specific case of Million-to-One Chance: the laws of probability are nothing compared to the power of Narrative Causality. Often seen in franchises involving space travel, possibly because Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale and can't figure out how big a single planet is, let alone an entire galaxy.
