The Battle of the Bridge of Cornellana occurred in 842 between the forces of Nepocian, who had been elected by the nobility to succeed Alfonso II of Asturias, and Ramiro, a kinsman of the dead king. It resulted in Nepocian's defeat, allowing the victor to succeed to the Asturian throne as Ramiro I. It occurred by the river Narcea, at a bridge at Cornellana (Curniana en Asturian), in Salas.
