Tropical Storm Arlene was a tropical cyclone that bought heavy rainfall to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. The first named storm of the season, Arlene developed as a subtropical cyclone near the Bahamas, and intesified to attain peak winds of 50 mph before transitioning to a tropical storm on May 27. Arlene made landfall near Savannah, Georgia late the same day. Overall damage was minor, estimated at $345,000. Three deaths—two direct and one indirect—were attributed to the storm. The remnants of Arlene interacted with a disturbance in the North Atlantic Ocean, which soon became Hurricane Bret.
