The Barbthorn is a type of cactus found in the Desert of Skulls in western Allansia. It is particularly common in the southern reaches of the desert. It is a fleshy, green, thick-stemmed succulent plant covered in spines. The Barbthorn stores water within its bitter, juicy flesh. However, as well as being protected by spines, the Barbthorn has a second defence against would-be diners: it is poisonous! Anyone eating part of the toxic Barbthorn's flesh, or drinking some of the liquid stored within, must lose 3 stamina] points, and add 2 to their Poison score (if it is being used).
