Yoita was a friend of Sagara Sanosuke's who had died around the start of the series from an overdose of opium. It is presumed that he was using the special "Spider's Web" opium, since he did not make enough money to purchase large enough quantities of opium (which is normally quite expensive) so as to suffer an overdose. He is called "Candyman" Yoita by Sano, but it is unknown whether is was his profession or merely a nickname.
