In all of its appearances, Explosion Nova is activated by pressing a series of buttons on the controller during the animation of the previous extension, Shining Gate. If the buttons are not pressed in time, then Nova Explosion will not activate. After completing the animation of Shining Gate, a giant star of fire drops from the space above the enemy, incinerating it with streaks of heat from the solar flares that leap from the supernova.
