Vurlene was a healer for the Singing Mountain Clan during the Galactic Civil War. She once sent an individual to Naboo to meet with Skub, a Gungan holy man who had discovered a form of algae with properties similar to bacta whom she had learned about through a book, to gain a sample of the algae as she thought that it would be well suited to the environs of Dathomir.
