During the independence movement in East Timor, the United States increased its efforts to establish East Timor as a sovereign and democratic state, with many of its efforts being directed from the Embassy situated in the capital city of Dili. During the events of 2006 Douglas Shetland, CEO of Displace International, was stationed at the Embassy trying to uncover evidence of Indonesian terrorist activities in the region. CIA Agent Ingrid Karlthson was also stationed here, posing as a desk jockey during her investigation of the worsening situation in the country.
