Sir Russell Hastings was a character in a detective novel Data was reading in early 2364 to become more prepared for a Dixon Hill adventure. Hastings gave instructions to his manservant, Simpson, to pay the bills and proceed forthwith to Montreal. While in Montreal, Simpson would wait for his master to wire him in coded language.
