The Hellespont-class was a type of escort that saw service with the Federation Starfleet during 23rd and 24th centuries. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era) The Hellespont class was built to replace the aging Guardian-class and Majestic-class escorts. The design of the Hellespont shared several elements with other vessels of the time such as the Miranda-class. It consisted of a saucer section designed after that of the Constitution-class with a rectangular engineering hull attached to the aft center with the ship's impulse engines flanking the engineering section. The ship's nacelles are joined to the dorsal side of the engineering hull with some having a stabilizing bar joining the nacelles at their mid-point.
