Cupid was the ancient Roman god of love. His Greek equivalent was Eros. He is usually depicted as a winged figure who carries a bow and a quiver full of arrows. People who were struck by Cupid's arrows were supposed to fall in love with the next person (or even the next living creature) that they saw. The Cupid costume is a popular Halloween costume that is usually worn by women. Although Cupid was a male god in Roman mythology, it is now extremely rare for a man to dress as Cupid.
