The song tells of an orphan who lives in an orphanage, helped by a kind nun. The nun is dying due to a disease, so he and his friends decide to help grant her final wish and ask her what she wants. The nun replies that her one wish is to receive a response to the letter she sent in her youth, but adds that it simply can't be granted. The children travel across the country in search of the one she sent the letter to. They find a painter that tells them the one who received it died long ago. The boy then writes a fake response to the nun and lets her read it, which she believes to be the actual response. The nun thanks him, and dies.
