Kattan was a security guard in Starfleet in the 2260s, stationed on the USS Lovell. Kattan's team was dispatched to look for missing civilians when the starship was posted to Gamma Tauri IV, ostensibly to help the colony's set up but in fact tasked with finding Shedai objects. Kattan's team was ambushed by Shedai sentinels, with Kattan and his fellow security officer Ndufe each firing two shots before they were dismembered. (VAN novel: Reap the Whirlwind)
