Loren was a Commander in Urtho's armies during the Mage Wars. He is described as having a "bricklike face and body." (The Black Gryphon) He was neither very good, nor very bad at deploying gryphons, so he never stood out in Skandranon's memory until he asked Urtho to reward Zhaneel for taking out a patrol of three makaar by herself. When Urtho ordered the evacuation of the camp at the base of his Tower, Loren was dispatched to work with the Healers, assembling supply packs for each group of evacuees.
