The Carmeli brigade was formed as an active duty brigade in 1948 and fought in Israel's War of Independence. After the war, the brigade was redesignated as a reserve formation. During the Six Day War in 1967, the brigade was mobilized and fought in the Jordan Valley, Samaria, and the Golan Heights. During the Yom Kippur War in 1973, the brigade was mobilized and fought in the Jordan Valley, the Beit Shean Valley, and the Golan. During Operation Peace for Galilee in 1982, the brigade was mobilized and fought at Sidon and Beirut.
