The Black Hands are a large and powerful group of Covenant mercenaries primarily composed of Sangheilies from the former Covenant military. It was founded by Fero 'Guraza, A former Light of Sanghelios that managed to survive the betrayal of the San'Shyuum and the Jiralhanaes slaughter of the Sangheili race. The Black Hands are all well equipped with top of the line weaponry and armor. Members of the Black Hands are given amor painted black with white trims, though higher ranks have orange, blue or other colored trims. The Black Hands have been under Huna 'Chavam's employ from 2570 as her security force and private army.
