The QCQ-05 (Qiāng Chōngfēng Wēishēng; Mandarin (Pinyin System) > "Silenced Assault Rifle") is a short-barreled assault carbine. It is chambered for the subsonic 5.8x21mm DCV-05 round and threaded for a silencer. The weapon feeds from a 50-round curved four-column-feed "coffin"-style magazine. The Type 05 was designed to replace the Type 79 and Type 85 subsonic submachineguns in service with the Chinese Army and began full production in 2005. A 9x19mm Parabellum version created for foreign sales called the JS-9 was first revealed in 2006.
