The Marine Air Warning Squadron 7 played a role in the battle for Iwo Jima, and was active in the Pacific Theater of World War II. They were involved at Peleliu, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Peiping, TsingTsao and Okinawa. The squadron was commissioned from Cherry Point on 1 February 1944, and was active through 1949. The 1st Marines Patch was an A Standing Red 1 imprinted "Guadalcanal"in a vertical Diamond on a Blue Field, with 5 white Stars. The 1st Marines stood at a low state of readiness at the beginning of the war .
