A refraction pulse was an energy discharge which could be used to adjust a vessel's shields to refract tachyon beams around the ship. Such a technique was utilized by the crew of the USS Voyager in 2373, while attempting to bypass a tachyon sensor net being utilized by a hostile species to protect their territory in the Delta Quadrant.
