The Election of 2008 was the 56th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Incumbent President Joe Lieberman decided not to run for third term as he retired. To take his place, the Democrats nominated Senator Joe Biden of Delaware. Hillary Clinton was the favorite in the primaries, but after an embarrassing scandal involving campaign staff she was forced to resign and Biden picked her as his running mate. The Republicans, meanwhile, nominated Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. He, at age 37, was the youngest candidate ever to run and the only one under 40. He promised to bring more Reagan-style policies and won a landslide victory over Biden, becoming the only president to be under the age of 40.
