Lieutenant-General John Wimburn Laurie (1 October 1835 - 19 May 1912) was a soldier who entered politics in Canada before returning to the United Kingdom where he entered parliament and local government. Educated at Harrow School and Sandhurst, he received a commission in the army in 1853, reaching the rank of lieutenant-general in 1881. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1887, holding his seat until 1891, although he returned to live in London in 1889. Wikipedia page [1].
