Dr. Scott Childress was part of a team at RSI that invented the the first self-sustaining quantum drive engine, an engine capable of achieving 1/100th the speed of light. Their invention, officially announced on May 3rd 2075 on SSNtv, lead to the terraforming of Mars, as well as basic space exploration.
