The Sepulveda Pass was a mountain pass in the Santa Monica Mountains in southern California, connecting the San Fernando Valley to the rest of Los Angeles via Interstate 405. As part of his escape plan after assassinating Martin Webb, the anarchist Zapata hired Gabriel Panatello to deliberately cause a car accident at the Sepulveda Pass, while five others did the same on various highways throughout the city during rush hour traffic.
