About 1099, the Council of the Jarls took up the control of Grønland, ending the anarchy. The expansion was brutally broken. The primus inter pares in the council was Svend Sigurdsson, Heyjarl (High Earl, in Vinlandish) of Grønland. At 1100, the Hellulandis explorer Halfdan Erikirsson drew the first map of the whole known world. The Sørsjør (Great Lakes) appear in the maps for first time. The names in the map are in the Vinlandish old language, and even now is considered one of the greater works of Viking primitive cartography.
