The story is told from the perspective of Pamela Hudson, a doctor on Lafa II and ex-girlfriend of Malcolm Reed. On July 12 of 2163, Hudson and her boyfriend, a Calafan named Treve, get a bit drunk and play strip poker as a prelude to having sex for the first time.
