On 22 July 2011, Jagex announced the "Awesome-RuneFest 2011-Item-Headgear-Concept-Competition" via the RuneFest website. The competition involved players submitting concept ideas for the 2011 item, with the only condition being that it be headgear. The winning design was revealed on 8 September 2011 and was designed by Marikdebie. Since the update on 30 October 2013, the hood has now a Customise option, giving the ability to change the colour of the white parts of the hood.
