Richmond is the current capital of Confederate States of America, and is one of the largest cities in the CSA, with an population of 204,214 people. The city of Richmond was founded in 1737. It became the capital of Virginia in 1780. During the Revolutionary War period, several notable events occured in the city, including Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" in 1775 at St. John's Church and the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. Richmond became the official capital of the CSA in 1867, and became an major industrial and military hub for the northern part of the CSA. Richmond is headquarters for the Confederate Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Confederation Intelligence Agency (CIA).
