It was first released in 1991 in North America, then Japan 3 months later, both for the NES. Europe's first sighting of the game was on the Game Boy, and was followed a couple of months later by the NES version. Other regions did not recieve their Game Boy versions until a just under a year later. Japanese and PAL Regions got a Virtual Console version of the game late 2010/2011. North America still have not recieved their copy yet. Adventure Island for Game Boy has been released for 3DS Virtual Console, too, in late 2011 for most regions.
