The Festival of Dionysus was held annually in Meliad in honour of the god, Dionysus. Each year, when the new wine was made, a group of virgins would drink it. Through the wine, Dionysus would tell them whether their king should continue to rule for another year, or be killed and replaced. The Festival was presided over by an Ancient Priest. One year, Prince Pentheus plotted with Ares to infect the wine so the virgins would kill his father, King Iphicles. Luckily, Hercules was able to foil the plot.
