There are no official plans to do so at this time. Fans believed a VII remake was in the works when a technical demo was released for the Playstation 3, depicting a retelling of the opening sequence of VII using the PS3's graphics engine--a similar thing happened for the Playstation 2's release, which re-rendered the dance sequence of Final Fantasy VIII. But both were simply tests, not full-blown remakes.
