The Manor Estate lies on generally north-facing slopes about a mile to the south-east of Sheffield city centre. The council built most of the housing in the neighbourhood in the 1920s and 1930s, with a second phase of building taking place in the 1950s. The estate was very modern when originally built. It was laid out on both side of a wide dual carriageway which form part of the outer ring road. There are several crescents with shops arranged around them. The estates had massive amounts of green space, compared to the slums that the residents were moved from in the city centre and Don valley areas.
