Joey is Yugi's slow-witted, nasally-voiced sidekick. His victories in card games are always glossed over and never given any explanation. At one point he admits that he never bothered to check how his cards work. The last time he duelled Yugi even Yugi couldn't figure out how he was beaten. Kaiba is especially annoyed by Joey's stupidity, finding his very existence an affront to him. Despite this, he does show some moments of intelligence, the best example being when he defended YuGiOh!: The Abridged Series from the copyright lawyer of Team 4Kids.
