The ODS-XIII (pictured on the right as an Ion Cannon from Homeworld 2) was the orbital defense stations the Remsian Republic built and employed over their heavily populated worlds. The station was built from the original designs of the X-40 Shade with no hyperdrive and a much more powerful weapon and engine system. The Defense Platforms were built around an anti-capital ship Neutron Cannon, with a series of Reactors, and a cluster of QuantumMass Ion Drives to keep the gun in orbit. For defense, and for assaulting ships at a much closer range than the main cannon was designed for, each platform was armed with six laser cannons and a series of WASP Missile launchers capable of devastating fighters and capital ships within their range.
