The Korean War started on 25 June 1950 when the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Korean's People's Army (KPA) crossed the 38th parallel invading South Korea. With support from China and equipment from the USSR the KPA quickly overwhelmed the Republic of Korea Army (ROK Army) and occupied most of South Korea except for a small portion called the Pusan Perimeter. Following the Battle of Inchon U.N. forces led by the United States pushed the KPA back behind the 38th and begin invading North Korea only to be stopped at the Yalu River when Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) crossed over the river and pushed U.N. forces back.
