The Volkswagen T2 Bus is based on the 1970 production model of the same name. It was a veritable home on wheels and many free spirits in the 1960's and 1970's drove them and used them as a way of life. A similar model was used in the episode of Futurama entitled "Bendin' In The Wind," to great effect, as the main characters follow a band around and live in the Volkswagen Bus. Think Deadheads.
