Mrs Tapper was a customer in the Rovers who drank there one lunchtime and who Annie Walker overheard telling a friend that she had decided to leave her husband. This prompted Annie to tell Betty Turpin about something that Jack Walker had told her back in 1937 to the effect that a pub was rather like a confessional - you would occasionally hear things or be told things by your customers that had to go no further. Credited as "Woman in Pub", the character's name was given in dialogue."
