The Megas Kanikleios or Keeper of the Imperial inkstand, is the fifth of the Great Officers of the Realm in Diadochia, ranking beneath the Megas Proedros tou Mystikoú Symvoulíou and above the Megas Praipositos. The holder i responsible for the monarch's personal (privy) seal (while the great seal is in the care of the Megas Quaestor). The holder is also responsible for the Imperial Inkstand, the kanikleion, which is shaped as a little dog (Latin: canicula) and contains the scarlet ink with which the Diadochian emperor signs state documents. The office carries a seat in the Cabinet of Diadochia.
