Illian of the Birds was a wizard who lived sometime long before the Turning War. He defeated Belrac, an evil incarnation of Shade, by driving an enchanted staff through his chest. Illian had the body burned, but three days later Shade reappeared in Dagora Forest, this time as the benevolent Jelrath.
