"Josephine Baker was a Janus singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist. She was born in the United States but moved to France in 1925 where she became one of the most popular entertainers in history. When World War II broke out, Baker's fame made her an ideal spy. She was so beloved that the German border guards let her leave France without searching her, allowing Baker to smuggle coded messages in her sheet music. However, there are rumors that Baker had another reason for traveling to Portugal--a secret Cahill mission that put her spy skills to very good use."
