The story is told from the perspective of Malcolm Reed, while serving on the Enterprise (NX-01). In 2153, while returning to Earth after the Xindi attack, the Enterprise is attacked by Klingons (ENT: "The Expanse"). Reed is mildly injured and falls to the floor of the bridge. Blacking out, he finds himself in Concord, Massachusetts, in 1775.
