Raban of Helmstatt (c. 1362 - 4 November 1439) was the Bishop of Speyer from 1396 until 1438, and the Archbishop of Trier from 1430 until 1438. Raban was one of seven sons of Count Weipert I of Helmstatt. Along with his brothers Weipert and Hans, Raban was accepted into service of the Elector Palatines. As a juvenile, his father had already managed to arrange for him to become a member of the cathedral at Speyer, although the process took several years and was expensive. From 1386 until 1388 he studied at the Rupert Charles University of Heidelberg. He spent the next year in Speyer before studying in Vienna and Bologna over the next four years.
