Atheism is from the same root word as Monotheism (belief in one god or deity) and Polytheism (Belief in many gods, as with the Greek or Norse Pantheons). An Atheist does not believe in a god or deity. This should not be confused with people who are simply non-Christian - Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Voodoo priests all believe in a god or gods.
