Anakin Skywalker was a Force-sensitive Human male who served the Galactic Republic as a Jedi Knight and later served the Galactic Empire as the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Born to the slave Shmi Skywalker in 46 BBY, Anakin was conceived as a result of efforts to manipulate the Force by Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious. He and his mother were brought to Tatooine to be slaves of Gardulla the Hutt, but were soon in the possession of Watto, a Toydarian junk dealer. In 32 BBY, Anakin encountered the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as Padmé Organa. Anakin managed to secure the three visitors parts with which to fic their ship after winning the Boonta Eve Classic, despite having had very little experience of podracing, only to learn that in so doing he had also won his freedom.
